Cindy Hedges has always got her arm around someone helping them!

Success isn’t about what you accomplish in life; it’s about how many people you inspire and help to have success in their life. I’ve talked to many very successful people who when asked about their success will almost always share stories about someone they’ve helped to succeed and the gratitude they have for others who helped them succeed.

I was fortunate to be on a phone call with my good friend and one of our top leaders in the company, Cindy Hedges, who lives in Spokane, Wa. (Learn more about Cindy by watching a short video featuring her and and other Enterprising Women). She agreed to try and help one of my team members who was frustrated and struggling to make her busy life as a mom, wife and business owner all work. I felt Cindy would posses the insight and empathy needed to connect with this young mom because Cindy was able to juggle these as she and her husband Michael raised 8 children and built a million dollar home business.

During our call I was cognizant of Cindy’s time and had only scheduled 15 minutes with my struggling and frustrated team member. The call went over 45 minutes. There were many tears shed as Cindy opened up her heart to this young mom as we shared some tender moments. After the call Cindy expressed her gratitude that she had the opportunity to share this moment with me and my team member. Keep in mind that Cindy and I are not at all economically connected, i.e., she would not inure any economic benefit to helping my team member succeed. Her only reward would be a “thank you” and a gift of happiness from the spirit.

There is no doubt in my mind that Cindy has learned a valuable “millionaire” lesson in life and practices it every day, “You get what you want in life by helping other people get what they want in life!”

“The worst part of success is trying to find someone who is happy for you.” ― Bette Midler

The only people that will be truly happy for your success will be others who are already successful or the people you’ve helped along the way. I’ve often visualized thousands at my funeral of people that I’ve personally helped along the way. I’ve been to a few funerals of wealthy people that only had a few hundred in attendance. To me the legacy we leave in life will be the success we’ve help others earn in their life.
