Have you ever witnessed a person that always seemed happy even in the worst of situations? These people look at life differently and have peace in their life. Why is this so?
Perhaps there are many answers to that question but let me offer one; just change the way you look at things.
Expectation is the Enemy
Most people allow discord into their lives because they believe they control all the outcomes in their life. When something doesn’t turn out just like they planned they get upset. Some say things like this, “Life’s just not fair. I work harder than others yet they seem to have all the luck.”
Luck has nothing to do with happiness. Luck has everything to do with your belief that you have to control all the outcomes. People that turn to luck don’t really believe in the full potential of personal responsibility.
When you “expect” things to turn out “your” way, you’re setting yourself up to be disappointed because you are not the author of any outcome in your life but you believe you are.
The Author of all Outcomes
The Author of all outcomes is God. Some call Him the Creator. He controls everything. He created the heavens and the earth and everything on it. Many men think they created tall buildings, great inventions or vast wealth. Nope. God created the principle that is summed up in 10 words, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:” (Proverbs 23:7 KJV). As men think about tall buildings, God supplies the means. After all He created the materials that went into the buildings. He created the raw material that goes in cement but some man had to first think about and envision cement. Quite simple, don’t’ you think?
When you realize that the only thing you control is your thoughts and actions, the sooner you’ll gain more happiness and abundance. God controls everything AFTER you think and act. He can’t do His part until you do your part; think and act.
Let’s look at a few common examples.
Example: Ironman Triathlete
I love the sport of triathlon. After I completed several I wanted more success from the sport yet my mindset was really holding me back (as he thinketh in his heart, so is he). During the marathon portion of the Ironman (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and a 26.2 mile marathon run) I would say things like, “I’ll always be a back of the pack age grouper.” or “Maybe I should just go back to golf.”
Then at an educational event I attended I was placed in a position to have inspiration hit me. I realized I was gaining the object of my thoughts with the state of my Ironman finishes. At the very moment I wrote the following down in my notes, “I am an age group champion and qualifier to race in the Ironman World Championship!” I even prepared the following picture of me finishing a recent Ironman with a new clock above my head that read 10:21:23 (10 hours, 21 minutes), the time I would need to finish in order to qualify to race in the World Championships.
Since that moment some amazing things have transpired. I’ve been brought to new knowledge and people with answers. I’ve been brought to new forms of nutrition. I’m gaining new strength and speed. My confidence is really high. I totally believe that I will race in Kona, Hawaii, the city of the Ironman World Championship.
Read more of the actually occurrences I’ve had by just “thinking” different and allowing God to provide the outcome to me.
Example: Dave MacArthur
My good friend Dave MacArthur is a giant among men. By applying this principle of “thinking” his life now is close to his dreams.
Read more about Dave’s amazing story.
Before Dave’s life changed he had to change the way he thought. He and his wife Cari began by building a vision board of what a perfect life would be. Here are a few visions they had as a family and what they did to include it on their vision board. He took his entire family to a home they could see owning one day. They all got out of the car and ran to the front porch and had a picture taken as if they owned that home. Dave could see himself speaking to large crowds so he and Cari went to a public library and sneaked into a vacant auditorium where Dave got behind the lectern and had Cari take a photo as if Dave was presenting to a large audience.
After that is when Dave began to be the recipient of the blessing, (….so is he).
That was about 10 years ago. Today Dave earns close to $1 million annually, owns a large 5,000 SF home and is one of the most notable speakers on the subject of telomeres. He also is affecting thousands of lives with his inspirational MechanictoMillionaire.com podcasts.

Now is your time. Change your thinking by changing your beliefs. The first belief I might suggest you change is your belief in who the author of all your outcomes really is. With the belief that God is the author, you’ll never again have an expectation. You’ll allow God, within His own time frame and infinite wisdom, create outcomes that you’ll accept.
You will do this! You will be successful and create the abundant and happy dreams of your desires. So as you thinketh, so will you become……..
